Cutting-edge energy-saving technologies help Shanghai's largest gas producer reduce energy consumption
Shanghai, China--June 10, 2007—ABB, the leading power and automation technology group, today announced the signing of a cooperation agreement on an energy-reduction reconstruction project with Shanghai Coking & Chemical Corporation (SCCC). According to the agreement, ABB will continue to collaborate with SCCC on energy efficiency by installing the highly effective ACS800 drive products which can reduce the energy consumed by SCCC's high pressure coal slurry pumps. According to estimation, 1.4 million kWh of power can be saved upon completion of the project, an equivalence to 600t standard coal.
"ABB is very glad to further energy efficiency cooperation with SCCC." Said Remo Luetolf, senior vice president of ABB China, at the signing ceremony, "As the world's earliest and strongest advocator of energy-efficient products and technology, ABB is confident in helping SCCC reduce energy consumption and increase productivity, thus contributing to Shanghai's objective to build up a resource-efficient and environment-friendly society."
SCCC has been making much effort in energy efficiency renovation project since its establishment in 1958. Coal has always been its major raw materials. At present it supplies more than half the city gas in Shanghai. As one of the biggest energy consumers in the megacity, the company has always attached great importance to energy efficiency. So far, the company has introduced ABB's flagship energy-saving products, a series of drive products, in its high and medium pressure coal slurry pumps, oxygen pumps, industrial water pump, fans in cooling tower, etc. Other reliable and energy-efficient electric products of ABB, such as motors and instrumentation, are also used in the process of SCCC's daily production.
The agreement was signed today at the opening ceremony of Shanghai Energy Conservation and Environment Protection Exhibition. ABB, as a representative of energy-saving products and technologies, was invited to the event.
In recent years, ABB has played an active role in many energy-saving renovation projects in Shanghai, including the energy efficiency improvement projects at the office buildings of Shanghai Municipal Government and Shanghai Jinmao Plaza, Shanghai Petrochemical Plant, the relay pump station of the phase-II project of Suzhouhe Wastewater Treatment Plant, the pump project of Synthetic Ammonia Branch of Wujing Chemical Co., Ltd. Through these projects, ABB has contributed a lot to Shanghai's move to reduce energy consumption. In addition, building on its great expertise in energy reduction technologies, ABB has helped many other Chinese enterprises to save energy. Its cooperation with the heavy energy consumers in Guangdong, under a framework agreement signed with the provincial government, has also taken off the ground.
