New power transformers strengthen strategic connection in North China
Beijing , China April 28, 2004 - ABB, the leading power and automation technology group, said today it has won two contracts worth RMB 40 million ($4.8 million ) to supply five sets of power transformers to Qianxi substation in Hebei Province, and the Qingdao Laoshan substation located in the Shandong Province.
The transformers strengthen an important and strategic connection between the isolated Northeast Power Grid and North Power Grid, which feeds power to China's capital Beijing.
"We are honored to receive these very important orders. Ensuring a reliable power supply to cities like Beijing is paramount, particularly in the run-up to the Olympics in 2008," said Peter Leupp, Chairman and President of ABB (China) Ltd.
Both contracts are repeat orders. ABB delivered power transformers worth more than RMB 80 million ($9.6 million) to the Qianxi and Qingdao Laoshan substations over the last four years.
Qingdao Laoshan substation was constructed to meet growing power demand for the industrial and tourism city of Qingdao that will co-host the 2008 Olympic Games for water sports.
The transformers will be manufactured by ABB Chongqing Transformer Co. Ltd.
