Growing power needs of the Chinese capital require additional equipment to bring safe, reliable power to the people of Beijing
Zurich, Switzerland, March 30, 2007 – ABB, the leading power and automation technology group, has won a contract from the Beijing Electric Power Corporation for power transformers to strengthen electricity grids in the city and ensure reliable power for the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games.
The transformers will be manufactured locally in China at the ABB plant is Chongqing- the largest transformer manufacturing facility in the word.
The order is part of the Beijing Electric Power Corporation’s $2.7-billion investment in the city’s power infrastructure which includes 24 transformers rated at 110 kilovolts (kV). The new units will be installed and operational by July 2007.

Transformers are a key component of power grids, converting the voltage of AC (alternating current) power for transmission and distribution purposes.
