ABB delivers advanced power equipment for the Zhengzhou-Xi’an Express Passenger Line Project
As reliable industry partner, ABB is committed to supplying full portfolio of products and solutions to China’s railway development
Beijing, June 22, 2009 - ABB, the leading power and automation technology group, announced that the 27.5 kV ZX1.5-R GIS switchgears delivered by ABB for the Zhengzhou-Xi’an Express Passenger Line Project have been put into operation. As a leading global supplier in the rail industry, ABB boasts a complete portfolio of products and solutions and is participating in a number of key railway and urban metro construction projects in China and across the world, contributing to the development of the nation’s rail industry with advanced technology and products.
ABB ZX1.5-R GIS switchgears are specially designed by the Medium Voltage Technical Center of ABB China to address the demand for the traction systems used on China’s electrified high-speed railways. The product is manufactured by ABB Xiamen Switchgear Co., Ltd. and shipped globally. Compared with conventional products, ZX 1.5 R GIS switchgears conserve space up to 70% and improve safety with their sealed design so as to isolate them from the external environment. The switchgears feature a longer life-span and fewer maintenance requirements, thereby helping customers to lower their total investment and operating costs. The Zhengzhou-Xi’an Express Passenger Line, spanning 485km with a top speed of 350 km/h, is a key project of China’s express passenger railways.
In the railway industry, ABB products and solutions cover every aspect of rolling stock manufacturing and power equipment and other system for rail line infrastructure, including traction transformers, main & auxiliary converters, traction motors, semi-conductors, power transformers, low, medium and high-voltage switchgear components, substations and SCADA, interlocking signal systems, and painting robots for carriage production and other leading products and systems. ABB works closely with key global vehicle manufacturers and supplies advanced products and solutions to the industrial sector. In addition, the company also delivers repair, maintenance, refurbishing and other services to railway operators, and is widely acknowledged for its role in helping them improve railway transportation efficiency, energy efficiency and passenger comfort.
ABB will stage the “Modern Railway 2009 Exhibition” in Shanghai from June 22 to 25 with the theme “ABB, your reliable partner”, demonstrating its full portfolio of products and solutions for the rail industry.
Daniel Assandri, Head of Power Systems Division of ABB China and North Asia Region, said, “ABB is an important player in the global rail industry. In China, we are committed to being a reliable partner and supplying industrial customers acting in this field with a complete range of products and solutions. By participating in this industry tradeshow, ABB is demonstrating its solid strengths and confidence in supporting China’s railway development.”
In China, ABB actively supports the development of the rail industry and the urban metro. In addition to the Zhengzhou-Xi’an Express Passenger Line Project, ABB has also participated in a number of key railway construction projects including the Wuhan-Guangzhou Express Passenger Line Project and the Wuhan-Hefei Express Passenger Line Project. ABB’s equipment has been widely installed in many locomotives and electric multiple unit (EMU) trains to ensure the efficiency and reliability during operation. For example, ABB leading traction transformers have been deployed in all main kinds of China’s EMU trains, including the 350km/h new generation, consolidating the company’s established market leadership of its traction transformer in EMU sector. In the urban metro sector, ABB has contributed to the construction of metro and light rail projects in major cities such us Beijing, Shanghai, Guangzhou, Shenzhen, Nanjing and Changchun.
In the global rail industry, ABB’s strengths and technology leadership are well recognized by its partners and fully demonstrated in a variety of key projects including France’s high-speed railway (TGV), the Swiss BLS AlpTransit Lotschberg, one of the longest railway tunnels in the world, and the Channel Tunnel Rail Link of England. In the TGV project, ABB traction transformers and power supply system ensure the safe operation of the V150 high-speed train, empowering it to set a new world record of 574.8 km/hour.
