February 11, 2003 Beijing, China - ABB, the leading power and automation technology group, announced today that ABB Hefei transformer Co. Ltd was accredited the OHSAS 18001:1999 and GB/T 28001-2001 certificate on December 31, 2002 by China Quality Certification Center, becoming the 5th company of ABB in China to achieve OHSAS 18001 accreditation.
The certification of ABB Hefei Transformer covers an occupational health and safety management system for its employees, engaged in the design, manufacture, erection and service of power transformers and transformer components.

Besides ABB Hefei Transformer Co. Ltd., the other four companies that have been accredited OHSAS 18001 are ABB Xiamen Low Voltage Equipment Co. Ltd, ABB Xiamen Switchgear Co. Ltd., ABB Low Voltage Installation Materials Co. Ltd, Beijing, and ABB Engineering (Shanghai) Ltd.
OHSAS18001/ and GB/T 28001 stipulate criteria for management systems to enhance occupational health and safety. This non-compulsory accreditation has become a benchmark standard for companies who are committed to enhancing the social dimension of sustainable development.
