ABB committed to energy efficiency in China’s construction industry for a Green Homeland
Beijing, November 25, 2009 –ABB, the leading power and automation technology group, announced that the company has won the only enterprise award of the “Excellent Brand Achievement in China’s Electrical Building Industry for the 60th Anniversary of the Founding of People’s Republic of China” on the “Achievement and Development Forum” held at the China International Exhibition on Housing Industry (CIEHI). In addition, ABB has also received the award of “Foreign Enterprise Contribution to China’s Electrical Building Industry” and Ms. Wang Zhongdan, General Manager of ABB LV Installation Materials Beijing, won the “Excellent Achievement Award for Entrepreneurs of Foreign Enterprises”. Winning the three awards at the same event signifies the recognition by China’s industrial authorities for ABB’s consistent efforts in energy efficiency in the electrical building industry.
Mr. Poh Cheng Gay, head of the Low Voltage Products & Systems Business Unit of ABB Automation Products Division in China, said at the award ceremony, “Energy efficiency is a definite trend in modern buildings. ABB has always been a front-runner in the industry and actively promotes the development of intelligent and eco-friendly buildings in order to help lower energy consumption. In light of China’s rapid economic growth, ABB is dedicated to the sustainable development by lowering the environmental impact of modern construction.”
Ms. Wang Zhongdan said, “This award is not only an honor for myself, but also signifies the recognition of ABB’s outstanding performance in China’s electrical building industry. ABB’s energy efficient products and solutions have been deployed in numerous construction projects throughout China. I hope more project owners will attach greater importance to energy efficiency. ABB will join with any willing partners in China’s construction industry to further improve the energy efficiency standards of the electrical building sector so that together we can build a green homeland.”
Commercial and residential buildings account for 38% of total energy consumption worldwide. The European Commission estimates that 27%-30% of the energy consumption of buildings could be eliminated, accelerating the pace towards a low-carbon based economy.
As a leader in energy efficiency, ABB boasts a complete range of energy performance products and solutions for the electrical building industry. For example, the i-bus Intelligent Building Control System features operational simplicity, flexibility, reliability, and cost efficiency and is widely deployed in industrial construction, office buildings and residential dwellings. The system allows for the control of all electric apparatus terminals in the building in order to meet customers’ individualized requirements for intelligent control while significantly cutting energy consumption.
The ABB i-bus Intelligent Building Control System has been deployed in many key construction projects in China, winning recognition from the industry for its optimal performance. Furthermore, the system has set a brand new benchmark for the intelligent building and electric sectors. It has helped Beijing Airport Terminal 3 to cut energy consumption for part of its lighting system by 20% and Tianjin Light Rail Line 9 to realize savings of 20% over the entire line.
Among the Top 10 Beijing Architecture Landmarks announced this August, the i-bus Intelligent Building Control System has been installed in seven. They are Beijing Airport Terminal 3, Beijing South Railway Station, the National Stadium (Bird's Nest), the National Aquatics Centre (Water Cube), Beijing TV Centre, Phase II of the National Library, and the New Poly Plaza.
The Achievement and Development Forum of China’s Electrical Building Industry was a key part of the China International Exhibition of the Housing Industry hosted by the Ministry of Housing and Urban-Rural Construction on Nov. 12th in Beijing. The forum was jointly held by the China Architectural Culture Center, the Electrical Building Branch of the Architectural Society of China, the Engineering Intelligent Design Branch of China Exploration & Design Association, and China’s Electrical Building Industry Alliance to mark the achievement of China’s electrical building industry over the past 60 years. The winners were chosen by public representatives and an expert jury to acknowledge accomplishments in the industry since 1949.
