ABB launches two global bases of high, mid and low voltage power systems in Beijing Development Area

Gaining expanded capacity to meet demand from China and abroad

Opening Ceremony
Beijing, June 12, 2007 - ABB, the leading power and automation technology group officially inaugurated here two large scale brand new modern factories which is the result of relocating, expanding and optimizing its two joint ventures - ABB High Voltage Switchgear Co., Ltd. Beijing, and ABB Low Voltage Installation Materials Co., Ltd. Beijing.

Moving into Beijing's economic and technological development area of Yizhuang, the two modern enterprises which have been operating successfully for more than 10 years, have gained doubled and even tripled capacity to provide top quality power systems of high, mid and low voltage to customers in China and worldwide.

"ABB has kept expanding and optimizing its existing facilities in China, to keep them stay in leading positions in both technological innovation and operational excellence which is the core in generating values to our customers," said Brice Koch, chairman and president of ABB China.

In the recent three years ABB has finished expanding and optimizing most of its 25 companies in China and that some companies have gone through expansions for a few times.

ABB High Voltage Switchgear Co., Ltd., focusing on designing, manufacturing and selling advanced high and medium voltage switchgear systems, is the electric system provider of many important infrastructure construction projects including the South to North Water Diversion project, rural gird reconstruction project, Beijing Chang'an Avenue reconstruction project. In May 2007, it won the order to support 44 substation construction projects in 13 provinces and cities from State Grid.

The company attached great importance in turning out innovations, including developing the SAFE 40.5kV product which is used in the South-to-North Water Diversion Project.

Today the company is the leader in the market of both High-Voltage live tank circuit breaker and Mid-Voltage secondary distribution switchgear in China, with an annual business growth rate of about 30% each year during the last 5 years.

ABB Low Voltage Installation Materials Co., Ltd. Beijing is one of the three ABB low voltage products manufacturing plants in China, providing leading line protection product and Electrical Wiring Accessories to different industry applications. Recently it provided solutions to the Beijing Olympic Main Stadium "bird's nest", Beijing Capital Airport's new station and Shenzhen Exhibition and Convention Center, etc.

Being the inventor of the MCB (Miniature Circuit Breaker) Technology in 1923, ABB has combined its global technology with effective local innovation. Two years ago, LV installation Materials Co., Ltd. Beijing designed special MCB suitable for the Qinghai-Tibet Railway project. Earlier In 1998, LV installation Materials Co., Ltd. Beijing designed the solution S250S+TS series IC pre-pay MCB, together with Beijing Electric Power Corporation for the famous "one meter one household" project, benefiting all households and small businesses in Beijing.

ABB's first consumer-oriented product in China - (EWA) (Electrical Wiring Accessories) solo series known for unrivalled safety and practical design is also produced here, including five China patent switch and socket products offering unique values for practicality and safety.

Brice said, "I am proud to say that our strong engineering teams in all local facilities form an indispensable part of ABB's global technology pool, combining ABB's proven technology with local innovations to satisfy customers' specific requirements".

He added that this is an important reason for ABB's local companies maintaining an average of 20% growth rate in China.

In 2006, 10 ABB local companies stood among "China's top 100 electric equipment suppliers" (ranked by total revenue), including ABB High Voltage Switchgear Co., Ltd., Beijing and ABB Low Voltage Installation Materials. Co., Ltd.
