ABB contributes to protecting the Mediterranean Sea supporting Operation Delphis 2010

2010-07-14 - For the sixth year in a row, ABB Italy is supporting the Battibaleno association to protect marine cetaceans in the Mediterranean Sea.

Sesto San Giovanni (Milan, Italy), 2010, 12th July – ABB, the leading power and automation technology group is proud to contribute for the sixth year in a row to Operation Delphis, the event that mobilizes the highest number of mariners, both professional and recreational, with the aim of understanding and protecting whales and dolphins in the Mediterranean. Delphis is a nautical event unique throughout the world for its originality and scientific value.

In its fourteenth edition, Operation Delphis is promoted and organized by the Battibaleno association.

Battibaleno is an international non-profit organization for the protection of the Mediterranean environment founded in 1995 that seeks to raise awareness on the common whale and the various other species of cetaceans commonly found in the Mediterranean Sea. It is Battibaleno’s wish that an ever-growing number of mariners and sea-lovers will become “naturalist navigators” able to personally serve the interests of our sea.

Through its business and beyond, ABB promotes an eco-sustainable development in order to safeguard the environment, the communities and the countries in which it operates. Environmental policy is not only an integral part of ABB’s commitment to sustainability, but also of its strategies in the processes and daily activities of the entire ABB group.

For this very reason, ABB acknowledges the importance of this initiative and of its environmental commitment by supporting Battibaleno, in an effort to raise awareness on the marine environment.

Delphis 2010 aims to rally the highest possible number of vessels and crews for a panoramic snapshot of the cetaceans presence in the Mediterranean Sea that will be useful for the scientific community. Operation Delphis 2010 will kick off on 18 July and free registration is possible at www.battibaleno.it.
