March 12, 2003 Beijing, China - ABB, the leading power and automation technology group, announced today that ABB Distribution Transformer (Hefei) Co. Ltd was accredited the ISO 14001:1996 environmental management standard by Det Norske Veritas, becoming the 18th company of ABB in China to achieve ISO 14001 accreditation.
The certification of ABB Distribution Transformer (Hefei) Co. Ltd covers the design and manufacture of distribution transformers. Established in 2001, ABB Distribution Transformer (Hefei) Co. Ltd is a focused factory to manufacture distribution transformers.

ISO 14001 was first published in 1996 and specifies the actual requirements for an environmental management system. It applies to those environmental aspects over which the organization has control and which it can be expected to influence. The standard follows the concept of continuous improvement whereby accredited organisations, like ABB, are required to set goals and programs to continuously improve their environmental performance. Renewal of accreditation is dependent on evidence of performance improvements.
