ABB consolidates process automation for Oil, Gas and Petrochemical businesses in China

Supplying control technologies that allow Advanced Process Control, improving energy and process efficiency, and addressing the need for conservation of scarce resources

Beijing, April 22, 2008 – ABB, the leading power and automation technology group, announced the formation of a combined Process Industries Products and Oil, Gas, and Petrochemical business unit, set up to focus on increased activity in the Oil, Gas and Petrochemical sector of China. The newly consolidated business unit is part of the Process Automation Division of ABB. China’s oil, gas & petrochemical companies and life sciences industries are growing at double digit percentages, necessitating a strong response to meet the increasing demand of the local market. ABB is reinforcing its team with additional people and management to support the build-up of the new business unit.

ABB’s Process Automation division delivers integrated solutions for control, plant optimization, and industry-specific application knowledge and services to help process industry customers worldwide meet their critical business needs in the areas of operational profitability, capital productivity, risk management and global responsibility. These industries include oil and gas, power, chemicals and pharmaceuticals, pulp and paper, metals, minerals, marine and turbocharging, which have critical demands to be highly automated and energy efficient. ABB’s control technologies will allow advanced process controls, addressing the issues around scarce resources, and driving energy and process efficiency.

In a recently published study by well-known industry analyst ARC Advisory Group, ABB was ranked in the leading global position in the broad process automation market. In this report, ARC includes DCS, PLC, SCADA systems, safety systems, AC drives, general motion controls, software and machine safeguarding systems sold to the process industries. The study forecasts total worldwide market for automation systems in process industries, which was $30 billion in 2006, will grow by a compounded annual growth rate (CAGR) of 9.6% by 2011, to over $47 billion.
