Xiamen, China, November 26, 2004 – ABB, the leading power and automation technology company, today celebrated the ten-year anniversary of one of its most successful and largest operations in China – ABB Xiamen Low-Voltage Equipment Co., Ltd.
"We committed to China early, striving to better meet the needs of our valued customers, to improve their operations while lowering environmental impact," said PC Gay, head of ABB’s low-voltage factory in Xiamen, located on China’s east coast, south of Shanghai and across from Taiwan. "As a result, we can safely say that our success is a consequence of our customers’ success."
PC Gay said the factory was opened in 1994 to make modular-designed, compact-structured low-voltage switchgears (MNS) and air circuit breakers under "transfer of technology" agreements from ABB partners in Germany and Italy. Low-voltage products and systems are used in electric power generation and distribution and the electrification of factories and buildings, among other things, for the fast-growing Chinese market.
"It is a testimony to the team’s hard work and perseverance that ABB’s low-voltage equipment is the industry standard in China," said Peter Leupp, chairman and president of ABB in China. "With the help of our colleagues in Europe, we’ve consistently introduced new technology that lowers environmental impact, securing a strong customer base and prosperous future."
The factory has three management certificates: ISO 9001 quality management certificate; ISO 14001 environment management certificate; and OHSAS 18001 occupational health and safety management certificate. The products are also type tested by the National Switchgear Quality Control and Inspection Center and the China Commission for Conformity Certification of Electrical Equipment.
