New technology can lift 970 tons per hour
Beijing, China, August 9, 2004 – ABB, the leading power and automation technology group, said today it has won a $12 million order to design and build two mine hoists for Xinwen Mining Group in east China’s Shangdong province.
"Longgu Coal Mine has placed a significant order with our mining business in China," said Peter Leupp, Chairman and President of ABB China. "This indicates that our new technologies continue to help industrial customers increase efficiency while improving productivity."
ABB’s delivery includes both mechanical and electrical parts. The mine hoist has a pulley diameter of 4.5 meters, and will be driven by a synchronous motor with ABB’s state-of-the-art drive system. The drive system is "network-friendly," meaning it does not cause any large voltage variations on the supply network and does not require harmonic filtering.
The 4,800 kW synchronous motor has a payload of 32 tons. It will run hoists at a speed of 12 meters per second, allowing it to raise 970 tons of coal per hour from a depth of 1,100 m. The delivery is scheduled for the end of 2005.
Xinwen Mining Group is one of the top ten largest coal-mining enterprises in China, with a triple-A credit rating. Longgu Coal Mine, with annual capacity around six million tons, is the first of seven coal mines to be developed in the Juye mining area, and is listed by the Chinese government as one of the country’s largest and the most important mining projects.
